Victory for McLaren Solus GT at Goodwood
17th July 2023
Victory for the Solus GT in Sunday’s Timed Shootout Final at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed confirmed its astonishing performance credentials, thrilling spectators and crowning McLaren’s 60th anniversary celebrations at the event.
Having made its dynamic debut on Thursday July 13 – the first day of the 2023 Festival – the Solus GT’s full-throttle assault on Goodwood’s 1.16-mile Hillclimb in Sunday’s grand finale saw McLaren Factory Driver Marvin Kirchhöfer storm to the top of the timesheet with a run of 45.342 seconds. This secured McLaren’s second Festival of Speed Timed Shootout win in three years, following victory in 2021.
Born in the virtual world for the Gran Turismo SPORT video game and brought to life by McLaren, just 25 Solus GT customer cars will be built. Powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine developing 840PS and 650Nm of torque, the Solus GT’s sub-1,000kg weight and awesome aerodynamic package combine with the powertrain to deliver a sensational level of performance.
As well as thrilling on the Hillclimb, a Solus GT was on display at McLaren House for the duration of the Festival. Joining it on show was McLaren’s new 750S supercar – the lightest and most powerful series-production McLaren – which made its public dynamic debut with several high-speed runs over the weekend.
“Victory for the Solus GT in the Timed Shootout Final crowns a milestone Goodwood Festival of Speed for McLaren. Coinciding with 30 years of the Festival, our 60th anniversary celebrations had already seen a Triple Crown tribute at McLaren House and on the Hillclimb and powerful public dynamic debuts for both the Solus GT and the new 750S, and now we have again claimed victory in the Timed Shootout Final – a fantastic achievement by an incredible team.”
